The order of things.

(Shaun only - writing this entry)

I have been to see a slew of summer blockbusters so far- and I wanted to give my number ranking of what I thought should be placed where so far. My top 5 so far this summer are:

1. Ratatouille
2. Harry Potter & The Order of The Phoenix
3. Knocked Up
4.Pirates of The Caribbean III
5. Transformers

I unfortunately do not have time at the moment to give my full critique of the films from start to finish- but I would have to say- from an appreciation standpoint I think this is the order in which I would rank what I have seen so far this summer. I DEFINITELY need to see 1, and 2 again…

Las Vegas Part I.

Adventures in the patience of gambling. Tonight went the following way. 7:00PM I take $260 out of the ATM. By 7:31PM I am down to $20. I take said $20 and put it on #29. $20 turns into $700.00.

I then proceed to lose $140 playing blackjack. It is now 8:00PM and I have to catch a cab from the Venetian to Ballys to meet work associates for dinner.
I get back to the Venetian at 10:30PM and proceed to drop down to $400 of which I am only going to use another $100. I turn said $100 into $600 playing roulette again. I then go back down to $300 in my pocket. It is now 11:34PM and I have moved onto the last table of the night where I color in $100. I bet my system around number 29 and proceed to win $1,329.00

Total math- started the day with $260 in my wallet. Ended the day with $1,729.00

The images below are what 1 hour worth of grinding it out looks like.

A certain someone (Future Mrs. LCT) is getting a very nice surprise from the Venetian.

Sleep tight kiddies… I know I will.

Hold the press... this just in....

After a really fantastic dinner experience in the North End of Boston.... Mrs. T-Guy J has given birth to what could be a pivotal moment and momentous turning point in the life of THE LEFT COAST TIMES.

We here at the LCT have to give some serious though to the idea- but going forward the site name might be changed to dictate the subject matter of the entries.

MOVIES AND POOP!

That's right- we may dedicate the format entirely to movie and poop critique and discussion or some derivation there of.

Discuss and please leave your feedback and thoughts...

More than meets what eye?

We had the distinct pleasure of seeing the first dismal miss of the summer this past Wednesday when we attended TRANSFORMERS.

Having gone into the film not really expecting much, none of us were really disappointed with the movie, but there were definitely some short comings that need to be addressed.

Overall review: The movie is fast paced, and when we say fast paced- we mean that if you blink you are bound to miss a lot. There are 3 to 4 central storylines taking place concurrently throughout the movie that attempt to meld into one major plot line by the climax of the film, but in our humble opinions - it just falls flat.

The CGI in the film was a MAJOR plus to the overall feel of the film, however- the actions sequences that involve the autobots and decepticons move so fast that it is often hard to tell who is who and what exactly is going on- besides absolute carnage.

Also to the films credit was the acting. While the expectation of Oscar worthy acting was not an issue or expectation- there are some great comedic performances in the film. John Turturro provides some great comic relief as does the cast of autobots throughout the film.

The downfall of the film besides the blistering pace of the action scenes which were too hard to follow, is that there wasn't enough time invested in the story of the robots. There is a lot of character development in the human sub-plots, but very little time invested in the story of the birth, growth, war, and dispersion of the transformers- this is brushed over rather quickly in the opening of the film.

If we were a 13 year old - this would be one of the coolest things we have ever seen, and as adults - it had its moments- but all in all the film was quite mediocre.

We give this a grade of C.

Onto more pressing issues...

There will be a lag in posts over the next week or so, as 2 of us are headed to Boston for the weekend and then 1 of us is splintering off to Vegas for the week for work. If time avails itself there might be an entry here and there, otherwise we'll see you all soon.
