What the F???????

I had the luxury this past weekend of playing golf on the East Coast for the first time in almost 5 years. I was so looking forward to this as it was a really nice course that my brother-in-law to be had picked out in Philadelphia.

My reaction to how this round of golf played out was disbelief. I had played steadily in San Francisco over the last 4-5 years and while I would never boast that I am good- I was shooting somewhat well and coming in around 100-105 by the time Megan and I left. I had the same set of irons that I had bought in New Jersey in 2002 and was capably shooting the ball WELL off the tee with my 4 or 5 iron. Again, not saying I was good- I was at least able to shoot my opening shot a minimum of 200 yards into the fairway or somewhere in the vicinity.

When the future Mrs. LCT and I moved to New Jersey I left my trusty irons behind and intended to buy a set of good irons on the East Coast. Things like furniture and utilities took precedence and I ended up buying a set of generic graphite shaft clubs (never having used graphite before in my life.) I took said clubs to the driving range and hit well.. Averaging about 180 yards with my 5 iron. I felt confident that I would pick up where I had left off and would play well in my first outing.

Saturday- June 23, 2007 was that day.
Cobb Creek Golf Course: was the course, and lets just say that my game fell FAR below expectations. I had told future brother-in-law of my capabilities and that I was excited to get out and play.

If I tell you- that it looked like I had never picked up a golf club in my life- I am not exaggerating. I could NOT hit the ball. Not off the tee, barely off the fairway, and my putting (which is usually the highlight of my game- 2 putting AT MOST) was nowhere to be found. I shot a 130, and that score was not even true, it was a merciful rule of maxing out at double the hole’s limit. The clubs were awful- there was so much flex and drag in my swing – that the ball went NOWHERE. I could barely get the ball in the air, and when I did- it didn’t go remotely anywhere near where I was aiming.

While I am not a competitive person in the least- I was most of all embarrassed because I couldn’t provide the sort of game that I had claimed I was capable of playing.

Internally I looked at my game and said “Ricky… you got some splaining to do!” Having legitimately shot under 105 at Lincoln Park, Peacock Gap, San Geronimo, and other Bay Area courses- I was mortified at my playing this past weekend.

I need a personal Terry Tate on my team this morning...

I initially was going to only post one video this morning. However, after the 4 hours I have had so far today- my initial reactions of frustration turned to laughter when I found a string of Terry Tate Office Linebacker films that I hadn’t seen before.

If you’re also having one of those days/weeks – please enjoy and I hope that this brings you a better vibe. Thank to
www.youtube.com for having these.

Ryan Reynolds For President!

In the more recent past we, here at the LCT have become HUGE Ryan Reynolds fans. We appreciate a good comedy and even more so very good comedic acting. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Ryan Reynolds work- please take the following action:

1. Hit yourself in the face, hard!
2. Go to your nearest video store and rent JUST FRIENDS.
3. Watch said film.
4. Dry your eyes from tears of laughter.
5. Repeat step 1 for not having seen this film before now.

Ryan’s performance in this film is fantastic on so many levels. Although the film has an outstanding cast- Mr. Reynolds stands out as comedic gold in this film and really leaves a lasting impression. Gone are the days of Van Wilder and here are the hilarious adventures of Chris Brander.

If this brand of comedy is up your alley- please check out Ryan’s latest blog entry on the Huffington Post.

Passion and the Apocolypto.

In the last couple of weeks we decided that we here at the LCT wanted to see the last two films by Adolph Gibson. Provocative: yes. Visually well done: yes. Worthwhile: yes and no.

First: Apocolytpo. This film was visually stunning and very interesting from a anthropological and visceral perspective. As we weren’t alive at the time – it was a wonderful journey into the life, community, customs, and practices of the time. It was a truly remarkable telling of the perception of what actually brought an end to a unique but barbaric people.

The film is fascinating as it humanized the barbarism and rituals of a people that did everything to appease the G-ds. Apparently human sacrifice and vanity is what made the G-ds satiated. The one thing that we really loved about this movie was the manner in which the people developed community and lived a life or purpose. Of course this story was told from one interpretation and could be completely paying an injustice to what the society and culture actually represented. This theory is our only true conclusion which we affirmed after we watched The Passion of The Christ.

Second: The Passion of The Christ. We tried to remain objective and open minded when watching this film.. But seriously… How did this film ever see the light of day, let alone get funding and distribution. Not only was the brutality off this film unnecessary, but in all honesty- how could something with such a blatant Anti-Semitic perspective be allowed to be released? If Hitler had survived the war- he probably would have been on the red carpet with Mel Gibson in support of the film.

According to this re-telling of the crucifixion of Christ- not only was it the Jews who were the aggressors, but it was the Romans who were defiant and unwilling to commit the act. We got the allegorical message that it was the devils intervention that manipulated the actual barbarism of the act- but in all honesty we found the portrayal of the Jewish people- specifically King Herod insulting to the average persons intelligence. Numerous people were crucified for various crimes- more than just Christ was crucified for heresy, but leave it to good old Mel to manipulate fact for the sake of conversion.

In the film, it was not the spear of a centurion that killed Christ- but rather an act of mercy to insure that he was already dead and no longer suffering. We are all for making a buck- but come on! The only thing that the movie didn’t propagate and would have at least made the film more entertaining- would have been the fortune teller or prophet that would have commended Nazi Germany for avenging the crucifixion by means of a purge (The Holocaust.) Although this would disprove the Gibson family tradition of denying the Holocaust having happened.

In summation: one good film and one travesty. The LCT really hope that the average person who sees The Passion of The Christ can take it upon themselves to do some research and realize that the film is heavily slanted.

Fact: The religious community did condemn Christ- Just as they condemned ANY member in the community that undermined the belief of one G-d and anyone suspected of heresy. Fact: It was a Roman act and Roman centurions who killed Christ- NOT Rabbis. Fact: It was the spear of a Roman that actually killed Christ and caused his death at the end of his crucifixion.

Perspective: It was not a Jewish act or Jewish law that killed the son of G-d. It was a religious personification of the time that condemned and punished persons who believed they could rise above the pious beliefs of organized religion, and cultural standards of Roman rule and law. This was the same belief that propagated The Crusades, The Inquisition, and most religious zealotry of modern times.

We at the LCT apologize for the soapbox antics of today’s entry- but it needed to be said. Here’s our tribute to Heir Gibson.

Musical delays. Something to keep you busy 06.07.07

Today’s entry is dedicated to unique signers/bands with a great sound. These are not bands that go into my everyday rotation usually, but today they are each getting a shot on the LCT. Some of the performances that I found are acoustic versions of musicians that I really admire. Other clips are studio and live versions of bands that I don’t know that well but I am starting to really like.

**The only exception is the last clip of Matthew Good. Matt is possibly one of the most amazing singer/songwriters of our time. Matt hails from Canada where he is very recognized, but hasn’t seemed the make the leap to the American mainstream.

I will keep this at 7 clips for now before this kills the blog.

Enjoy.

Melding...

The Democrats seem to bash one another while trying to save face on the same issues that the republicans, just seem to endlessly bash one another on with no reverence for any sense of party solidarity.

It’s honestly enough to just make the average person shake their head and wonder what the difference is. I found the following commercial….Well… Just because it makes me laugh and reminds me of how ridiculous politics actually is.

Enjoy.
